What Speek Ally is
What Speek Ally is
Speek Ally is a structured support programme for parents and carers of young people who self-harm. It offers a safe and private space where you can learn, ask questions, and get support.
Speek Ally is designed to support you in your role as a parent. It does not provide therapy for your child.
You are being invited because you are supporting a child who is self-harming, and your NHS trust thinks extra support for you could help.
The programme includes:
Guided learning, clinician support, and connection with other parents
Support shaped around your situation
Support from clinicians with NHS experience
Four months of NHS paid access for parents referred by NELFT and ELFT
Flexible use, so you can take part at a pace that works for you
Content and support provided in English
Access through a mobile app, with the option to use the web
Your information is kept private and secure, following NHS standards
Speek Ally is not about being a perfect parent. It is about helping you feel steadier, better informed, and less alone as you support your child.

What Parents Say
Stories from parents who felt more supported with Speek Ally
“I think I would be in quite a different place if I hadn't joined Speek. I think I would still be nervous. I would still be scared."
Mum of 17-year-old with ADHD
"Speaking with a clinician who had worked in CAMHS was a turning point. For the first time, I felt like someone understood not just my daughter's struggle, but mine. The advice wasn't just clinical, it was human."
Father of a 14-year-old with autism
"For a long time, I feel like I was drowning in all the emotions that came with what was going on [...] It (n.b. Speek) just created a space that made me feel seen, heard, understood. It was everything I needed.”
Mum of a 13-year-with two siblings
“I think it, it really has just opened the door to me, understanding my child better than I ever thought I could. Which is what counts. Because when you know someone you see them, and I can see her.”
Mum of a 11-year-old who went through 4 clinical services
"Hearing that other parents felt the same guilt was a huge weight off my shoulders. I stopped feeling like a failure and started feeling like I could handle this."
Mum of a 10-year-old who was on the CAHMS waiting list for 18 months

Is Speek for me OR my young person?
The Speek parent support programme is designed for you, the parent or carer of a young person who self-harms. Many young people aren’t ready for help, and even when they do receive professional support, families are often left out. Speek fills that gap - giving you the guidance, tools, and confidence to feel more grounded and supported, so you can create the calm and stability your young person needs to heal.
How is this different from standard therapy or counselling?
What if I don’t have much time?
Can Speek still help me if my young person’s needs are unique?
